5 εύκολοι τρόποι που μειώσαμε το πλαστικό στην καθημερινότητά μας

5 easy ways we reduced plastic in our daily lives

At Ecosophy, our goal is to find products that you will love for their style and usefulness, while you will know that by choosing them, you reduce your impact to the environment. thus we will share 5 ways through we, as Ecosophers, reduced the use of plastic easily!

First some facts to remember why it is important. Plastic is everywhere - if an object is not plastic, it logically comes in plastic packaging! Unfortunately, only 9% of the world's plastic is recycled, and more than 8 million tonnes end up in the oceans every year, with extremely negative consequences for the seas, the animals that live in them, but also man.

Here are some easy tips from our daily routine that have helped us reduce our use of disposable plastic.

1. Reusable Bottle / Glass

Plastic bottles take about 450 years to decompose. With a stainless or reusable plastic bottle, it is easy to have cool water with you everywhere (even in the summer on the beach or in the car), without having to constantly buy plastic bottles.

We drink at least one coffee every day, that is, with rough calculations 260-360 disposable plastic cups a year. By choosing a reusable glass you simply fall to zero! In addition, more and more cafes are giving you a discount if you go with your own glass.

2. Toothbrush made of bamboo or other plant material.

Plastic toothbrushes take about 300 years to decompose. Bamboo toothbrushes, or corn starch, for example, are biodegradable, so when it comes time to change it, you just put it in a pot (without the bristles). Especially bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials, since it does not require pesticides and needs very little water.

3. Reusable Bag

Objectively, we are not saying something terribly new here ... Practically, in order to really reduce the use of plastic bags, what was needed was to have reusable ones in various places. Always try to have a cotton bag with you in case you make a stop at the supermarket. For fruits and vegetables, take small cotton bags and try to avoid those that are wrapped in plastic.

4. Bar soaps (soaps for hands, body, hair, conditioner)

Bar soaps last much longer, are vegan and cruelty free, have no plastic at all and you can find them in wonderful fragrances. It is one of the easiest changes one can make!

5. Change to a detergent that respects the environment!

All the laundry detergents and fabric softeners that we use, come in plastic packaging. The alternative of a cleaner that combines detergent and emollient, is cheaper and more ecological in all respects and the result is far from disappointing!

Changing all of the above is much easier than it sounds! Do your best as you can! Do not forget that even if only half the time you go to the supermarket you remember your reused bag, you will have reduced the use of plastic bags by half! And you will see how easily it will become a habit!
